Throwback Thursday: Tupac – “I Ain’t Mad Atcha”

Whether he “knew he was gonna die” or not makes for great conspiracy theories. The video imagery he designed also just plain looks phenomenal, and plays into that prophetic theory well, but what’s more fun to imagine is the atmosphere when he actually recorded the song.  According to friend and rapper, Kurupt:

We knew when that was done, it was over. Oh yeah, ‘Pac heard the beat and flipped out. And basically he was just like, “Man, this is it. “We sat and we drank and then Daz was just operating on the record, and when ‘Pac was in there working, he wasn’t with the distractions. It was more or less all, “Let’s knock this out, let’s knock this out, let’s knock this out.” I mean, he’d get mad at the engineers for moving too slow. That was his thing. He’d be on top of them like that. You know, “Come on, man, what the fuck? This ain’t too God damn hard. All you have to do is press fuckin’; ‘Record.’ Press fuckin’ ‘Record.’ Now!”

That said, Press Phuckin play NOW! This ain’t too hard for your throwback.

2 Times 2 Pac Was A Goofball

On this day June 16th, 1971 a force was born in East Harlem, NY. He would grow to call himself Tupac, then Makaveli and live forever on the Mt. Rushmore of a Culture, Music, and voice of a restless generation.  He was also a phuckin goofball!
“Thug Life” reppin,  Death Row, Bad-Boy-Killin, Outlaw is out with MTV for an on-location interview around Los Angeles.  When suddenly he spots danger via a familiar killer mean mug from a… BABY.  Can’t blame him, though. Chappelle admitted years later, that you only see this in the worst neighborhoods. Watch his reaction and ensuing plea:

This time shooting a promo-spot for the classic Yo MTV Raps.  Host Ed Lover is in the background giving pointers, but Pac believes they’re re-casting Scarface. Fun-Fact: Pac was quite the thespian himself, and went to art school where stage-acting was part of the gig. So, he can’t help himself when its reppin time:

Happy Birthday, Pac!

Watch Madonna Suck The Life Out Of Drake’s Face At Coachella

What We Know:

1. Coachella Festival is not new to bringing figures back from the underworld to grace the stage once more for younger generations (even though we all know they’re just being skyped in from their Cuban hideout).

2. Drake (28) headlined Coachella this past weekend, and Drake’s been headlining Madonna’s (56) mind for a while now. So, ya know… Drake’s been in the same nether-regions as Tupac. That’s a win-win, right?

3. Judging by his reaction, material-girl just sucked a few more years of life from the 6-God. BLESS UP!

Tupac To Release New Album, Haunt Rundown Motel

ghostpac
Earlier this week news broke that hardworking ghost Tupac Shakur is preparing to release new music.  It’s still a little unclear what form the poltergeist’s project will take, but I’m assuming it’ll be a new album.  Meaning, despite the fact Tupac has been dead for 19ish years, he’ll have released SIX more albums in the time that’s passed since we last had a new Dr. Dre album.  Tupac is literally the hardest manes in the game (Mythology joke. Get on my level).

Look, I was only seven when Tupac was shot, so I really can’t speak to how the world was different with him being corporeal vs his current incorporeal state.  Hell, you shouldn’t even trust my take on his music – at that age I was listening to the rap equivalent of flaming garbage.  That being said, I am an admitted phantom Pac fan, and am completely excited about the upcoming release. I stand by his posthumous music.  He’s dropped some of his dopest tracks from beyond the grave, ranging from the introspectively spiritual, to the eerily prescient, and the hard as all hell.

Still, it seems like Pac should consider settling down and start doing standard specter shit.  Take over a rundown motel.  Chill in graveyards at midnight.  Hit up the church and/or insane asylum circuit.  Whatever it is that the ethereal are doing these days.  It seems unfair for the afterlife to be spent working.  Do what you love sure, but it’s okay to retire too, dude.  You’ve earned it.  Rest in peace.
