Turnip Tuesday: Skepta – “Numbers” (Ft. Pharrell)

EXACTLY  a year ago we introduced you to Skepta via an electrifying punk-cover of his smash single “Shutdown”.  “That’s Not Me”, “Man”, and “Shutdown” are all riding at the same tempo to make true and new Grime fans comfortable that Mr. Adenuga has not sold out in his latest critically-acclaimed LP, Konnichiwa. That said, “Shutdown” has done all it can do as a single, and its time to move on to bigger and better things.
There is nobody better to dock the Black British Invasion than The Othertone Skateboard P (aka Pharrell Williams).  Much like he did for 2 Chainz with “Feds Watching”, Pharrell laces Skepta with familiar bongo drums to “fuvk up a whole new sound” with. This could do numbers on the Rhythmic charts, and introduce the British to a whole new crowd! MAKE THIS THE SINGLE, PLEASE! #SummertimeAlert

Turnip Tuesday: N.E.R.D. – “Brain”

Almost a year to the month ago I landed on these Virginia boys for the Turnip Tune. I was battling a flu then. The more things change, the more they stay fevery, mucous-filled, itchy throat the same – it appears. Phuck this OTHER flu too

Turnip Tuesday: WatchTheDuck – “3,2,1 Stretch” (Ft. Pharrell)

“Oooh snap! WTF IS THAT $hit! Hol up, lemme Shazam that jawn!”
That’s me hearin yet another Samsung commercial bout a week ago.
Shoutout to whoever is their music supervisor, btw. They put us onto this gem with Lady Leshurr a few back

Anyway, with Skateboard P’s assistance these Alabama boys bring the “trapstep noise” in this gym anthem turnt Turnip Tune! DON’T WATCH ME…

Turnip Tuesday: Missy Elliott – “WTF” (Where They From) Ft. Pharrell Williams

Missy “Misdemeanor” is BACK! Nuff Said… actually nah. This video’s too nasty to be passive. Missy is back like she left somethin with the  tried and tested dance-floor dominating, video awards vandalizing combination of Pharrell on the audio, and Dave Meyers on the video. If this joint doesn’t blow up the hip hop charts, its a perfect re-introduction for today’s youths who know her as simply that other chick in the Katy Perry “Friday Night” remix. Gotta hate the youths… the dances they do are so DUMB.

P.s.
DAT NUCCA PHARRELL DIDN’T EVEN APPEAR… HE WAS A PUPPET, AND IT WAS STILL FLY! Shout out to all the talented puppeteers out there!

Throwback Thursday: Clipse – “Wamp Wamp” (Ft. Slim Thug)

This song doesn’t work. At least it’s not SUPPOSED to work! Listen to that constantly ending bongo-drum-roll that starts as soon as it ends again… those stabbing keys are just TRYING to start some sort of riff, but are cutt right off! Except, instead of clicking “delete” and trashing them for some other sound – its like they were just forgotten there. Then when it was time to mix and master the record Pharrell was like “oh $hit! that’s still there? ehhh randomly add a riff there, Chad – like you did for Snoop’s Drop It Like It’s Hot“. AND IT WORKS! COT-DAMMIT, IT WORKS!
Pharrell is that kid you KNOW didn’t do the reading but, when the teacher calls on him in discussion he somehow nails a made up answer better than every other sucker who read for 4 hours last night. Then he looks around at the rest of the class like “WAMP WAMP – WHAT IT DO?”

FYFriday: Mark Ronson – “Feel Right” (Ft. Mystikal)

“Uptown Funk” was the longest reigning #1 Hot 100 Record of the decade. Kendrick Lamar invited the likes of George Clinton to help him produce the best rated Rap Album of All Time. Pharrell produced an entire Funk album for Snoop Dogg. No question that 2015 has been the year FUNK SO RIGHTEOUSLY made its comeback!  Mystikal channelled his all too seamless James Brown to help Mark Ronson on his next single, and it FEEL RIGHT!  Somebody needs to sign the kids in that talent show ASAP, btw.

To see the adults crash Ellen’s show to kill this performance themselves, check it out below:

Turnip Tuesday Tune: N.E.R.D. – “Everybody Nose” (Remix Ft. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Pusha T)

Standout LineShe stopped drinkin’ Diet Coke, she’s on that Coke Diet

My nose is stuffed from this flu, so that made me search “nose” in my library, and VOILA: Oldie-But-Goldie from these future-legends!  While most of America may now know Skateboard P for being the happiest man alive, most of his career consists of producing and belting on some of the most provocative pop mix that helped the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and even Snoop Dogg lock-in their respective spots in the party-hall-of-fame!  As the hook implies (and this Dayquil/Nyquil regiment has failed to help), this is the soundtrack to party girls in bathroom lines turning-up on ALL of the cocaine available in the vicinity clearing their nose.

P.s.
Turn your speakers lower just a bit, this song is recorded at a higher bit-rate and will rattle your ear-wax off! (Or maybe that’s just this flu. Phuck this flu.)
